Scallog goods-to-person automated warehouse: Boby robots bring goods to the operator.
A solution distributed in Italy by DIPITECH. Boby robots lift mobile shelves and bring them to the picking stations, so the operator stays put and, according to the manufacturer, picking becomes up to 3x more productive. The modular FLEXIPICK system can be reconfigured, runs 24/7 and is coordinated by the Scallog WCS® and RMS® software.
Goods go to the operator, not the other way around.
Manufacturer: ScallogScallog — represented and distributed in Italy by DIPITECH Industrial Solution
FLEXIPICK is Scallog’s goods-to-person ("goods to man") automated warehouse solution. Bobys carry mobile shelves to the workstations, so the operator no longer walks the aisles. The system grows in modules, adding robots, shelves and stations as volumes increase, and connects to your WMS or ERP through the Scallog WCS® and RMS® software. Scallog is headquartered in Nanterre, France, and has worked on goods-to-person for 11 years. DIPITECH helps you with sizing, ROI estimation and project preparation, with technical-commercial support in Italy.

Scallog Boby — the robot that brings the shelf to the operator
This robot slides under the mobile shelf, lifts it, carries it to the operator’s station and then puts it back in place. It handles up to 600 kg, travels at up to 1.5 m/s and works 14 hours in a row. When the battery runs low it docks by itself at the charging station, which is why the system can run around the clock.

The full FLEXIPICK system: mobile shelves, stations and WCS® + RMS® software
The Boby is part of the FLEXIPICK system, which also includes single- or double-sided mobile shelves in 800, 1200 and 2500 mm sizes, ergonomic multi-operator picking stations and two software packages, Scallog WCS® and Scallog RMS®. WCS® optimizes picking, replenishment and inventory and talks to ERP and WMS through APIs. RMS® runs the fleet in real time, handling routes, traffic, charging, station queues and simulation. To make use of the building’s height there is also the Scallog Under Rack mode, in which Bobys work underneath traditional racking.

Scallog RMS®: real-time fleet management (path planning, traffic and maps, 24/7 charging, task allocation, simulation, CE safety)
Guidance lines: no floor anchoring, route around obstacles, easy to install and replace
Height use: mezzanine and Scallog Under Rack mode
Scalability: robots, shelves and stations can be added over time
How it works
The goods-to-person cycle in 4 steps.
Traditional picking is turned around, because the goods now travel to the operator.
1 · Order
Scallog WCS® receives the order from the WMS/ERP and computes which shelves are needed and with what priority.
2 · The robot fetches the shelf
A Boby dispatched by RMS® reaches the selected shelf and delivers it to the assigned station.
3 · Picking at the station
The operator picks at an ergonomic station, guided by the display and pick-to-light, with fewer errors and less fatigue.
4 · Return and optimization
Once picking is done, the Boby returns the shelf to storage and moves on to the next mission, while Scallog RMS® keeps recalculating the fleet’s routes.
Two technical articles help you frame the project. The first explains how to choose an automated warehouse between AS/RS, goods-to-person, vertical lift modules and AMRs. The second covers when goods-to-person pays off, with order-line thresholds per day and the method for calculating the return on investment.
Benefits
Why choose a goods-to-person warehouse.
Productivity, ergonomics and flexibility
According to Scallog, FLEXIPICK goods-to-person makes picking up to 3x more productive and speeds up reverse logistics up to 8x, because it removes walking time and reduces errors. The manufacturer also reports that storage space drops by up to 30% and direct labor by about 70% on average. Ergonomics improves too, since the operator works at a fixed station. The system is modular and scalable, so you can start with a few Bobys and add more as volumes grow or seasonal peaks arrive. The guidance lines need no floor anchoring, so the layout can be reconfigured without heavy construction work, and on-site installation takes about a month on average (two to three weeks for standard systems). Based on your real volumes, DIPITECH estimates the return on investment and sets out the growth plan.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the Scallog automated warehouse
How does a Scallog goods-to-person automated warehouse work?
Boby robots lift the mobile shelves and bring them to the picking station (goods-to-person, or "goods to man"), where the operator picks without moving around. The Scallog WCS® and RMS® software assign missions and optimize routes. The result is less travel, fewer errors and, according to the manufacturer, up to 3x higher picking productivity.
How much does the Boby robot lift and how long does it run?
The Boby handles mobile shelves up to 600 kg, measures 1000×650×450 mm, travels at 1.5 m/s empty (1.2 m/s loaded) and runs 14 hours, with a recharge time of two and a half hours. Nobody needs to plug it in, because the robot docks by itself when the battery runs low, which lets the system run 24/7.
Does the warehouse need to be rebuilt, or can it be reconfigured?
It does not need to be rebuilt, because the optical guidance lines require no floor anchoring, route around pillars and expansion joints, and are easy to install and replace. The layout can be reconfigured and expanded over time, adding robots and modules as volumes grow, without the heavy construction work of a traditional AS/RS. To use the available height there are mezzanine configurations and the Scallog Under Rack mode, with robots operating under traditional racking.
Does the Scallog system integrate with your WMS/ERP?
Yes. Scallog WCS® (Warehouse Control System) connects to ERP and WMS via APIs, handles picking, replenishment and inventory and provides monitoring dashboards. Scallog RMS® (Robot Management System) coordinates the robots in real time, from routes and traffic to charging, mission allocation and station queues, and can simulate operation. In your request, it helps to state which WMS or ERP you use.
What is Scallog FLEXIPICK and how long does installation take?
FLEXIPICK is Scallog’s goods-to-person solution and includes Boby robots, single- or double-sided mobile shelves (800/1200/2500 mm), picking stations and the WCS® and RMS® software. On-site installation takes about a month on average and drops to two to three weeks for standard systems. The manufacturer reports 80 installations in 10 countries, 2,000 robots in the field and 11 years of experience.
